At 63 years old and in recovery from addiction, Gerhard was without stability or hope. Then his sister reached out to a former pastor, who recommended Bridgeport Rescue Mission. That call changed everything.
Thanks to compassionate people like you, we welcomed Gerhard without judgment and provided a safe space for him to heal. We helped him take his first steps forward—medical and dental care, obtaining his state ID, and securing vital documents.
Through our New Life Program, made possible by donors like you, Gerhard received nutritious meals, shelter, and job training through the STRIVE employment class. With continued support, he found a part-time job and saved over $2,800 in just a few months!
Gerhard says, “Recovery hasn’t been without challenges, but with the support of my sponsor and the community at BRM, I’ve stayed strong. BRM gave me more than a place to stay. They gave me a second chance. I’m nervous about the future, but I’m also hopeful.”
Today, Gerhard has moved into his own apartment and is working toward complete independence. He volunteers at BRM, giving back to others who are where he once was.
At Bridgeport Rescue Mission, there are many neighbors in Bridgeport like Gerhard who urgently need you.
