Why are people homeless?

Many families today describe themselves as living on the edge.  A medical bill, job layoff or other unexpected circumstance can result in an immediate plunge from poverty to homelessness.  Some common reasons are:

  • Lack of education and job skills
  • Legal problems
  • Insufficient income
  • Eviction or home condemned
  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Divorce
  • Domestic abuse
  • Illness, injury or death of wage earner
  • Poor money management
  • Depression and other mental illness
  • No child support

How many meals do you serve each year?

We serve more than 450,000 meals in our dining room, to residents of our New Life Program and to members of our community through our daily pantry bag distribution and through our two Mobile Kitchens which visit impoverished neighborhoods in Bridgeport and South Norwalk daily.

How can I help?
