Make this a Summer of Hope - Help us Meet our Campaign Goal of $600,000!

Most people breathe a sigh of relief when summertime rolls around. At Bridgeport Rescue Mission we take a deep breath instead. June, July and August can be the most difficult months for people who are homeless and for families already stretching their resources as far as they’ll go. We must be prepared to give them help and hope.

While the needs of our community don’t drop off in the summer, donations typically do. It’s not that people don’t care about the hurting and homeless during the summer, the needs are just not as top of mind as they are during the cold and wintry months. This creates quite a challenge for the Mission!

After careful budgeting and prayerful discernment, we've determined our expenses during June, July and August will be $600,000...the amount necessary to meet the needs of those we serve in Bridgeport and South Norwalk.

This year, through our Summer of Hope Campaign, we’re turning to our friends and supporters to help us with the needed funding. With an investment of as little as $1 a day for the 90 days of summer, your gift today will make this a summer of hope for poverty-stricken families and homeless men and women here in coastal Fairfield County.

Between 2010 and 2011 the number of homeless individuals in Bridgeport rose by 10 percent, and nearly half of the people counted in shelters on a single night had never been homeless before.*

And with 21 percent of Bridgeport residents living below the poverty line, many of those who are teetering on the brink of independence are likely to lose their homes.**

The children of impoverished families who ordinarily receive free meals when school is in session would go hungry if not for our Mobile Kitchen stops in Bridgeport and South Norwalk.
