Come In From The Cold
Before he came to the Mission, 49-year-old Wilfredo was “living” in a cement pipe near Marina Village, a housing project in Bridgeport. “It was a horrible experience. I could hear people screaming . . . and gunshots. I was scared. And it was so cold.”
Even if you’ve never been dangerously cold yourself, you can imagine the discomfort of trying to survive in the elements. Praying for sleep at night, but fearful of what might happen if it comes. And without regular meals, weary bodies don’t have the fuel they need to generate their own warmth. The risks of frostbite and hypothermia often outweigh the perils we normally associate with homelessness.
Here at Bridgeport Rescue Mission, we invite men and women to come in from the cold.
Not just to escape the winter weather. But to overcome the chill of addiction . . .
regret . . . despair . . . and fear of the future, every season of the year.
Every winter, friends of the Mission step up to provide food, shelter and other life-saving essentials for the hurting of our community. And with nearly 1 in 4 households in Bridgeport living below the poverty line and the health of the economy remaining weak at best we expect more people like Wilfredo will come to our doors for help.
- Every night as many as 100 men and women will sleep in safe, warm beds.
- 156,000 nutritious meals will be provided in Bridgeport, South Norwalk and from our Mobile Kitchen during the first three months of the year.
- Countless cups of steaming coffee will be served along with Christian love and guidance.
Please make an online gift to help all who are suffering come in from the cold.
Your heart will be warmed by sharing your kindness and
compassion with others this winter.
